Blinds remember everything
They hang in your window day after day. Catching dust drifting in from the street, kitchen grease, cigarette smoke. They witness sunrises and dinners by candlelight. After a few months, you stop noticing. After a year, you realise they used to be brighter.
They won't fit in a washing machine. A vacuum cleaner only gets the surface layer. And that coffee stain you tried to wipe away? Still there. Maybe it's time to hand them to someone who knows how to handle them — without dismantling the mechanism, without the risk they'll come back a size too short.
Why home washing ruins blinds
Fabric shrinkage
Most blind fabrics shrink when wet washed. Even a few centimetres means the blind no longer covers the window — and once shrunk, the fabric won't return to its original size. Home washing machines don't control temperature with enough precision.
Loss of stiffness
Blinds have special treatments and coatings that give them stiffness and prevent wrinkling. Aggressive washing in a machine destroys these coatings — the material becomes soft, the blind hangs in folds and doesn't roll out evenly.
Pattern damage
Printed blinds, patterns, or ombre designs are especially vulnerable. Wrong temperature or detergent causes colour fading, pattern washing out, or discolouration. Dark blinds lose intensity, light ones turn yellow.
At Gorące Żelazko laundry, we wash blinds under controlled conditions — we minimise agitation, select the right temperature, and use gentle products safe for coatings. We adjust the process to the fabric type. That's why our blinds return in their original dimensions and without damage.
6 steps to clean blinds
Every blind goes through a full professional care process — from inspection to pressing and quality control.
Inspection

We check fabric composition, coating type (blackout, screen, thermal insulation), identify stains, and assess overall condition. Based on this, we select the right washing programme and temperature.

Dust removal

Blinds collect enormous amounts of dust that settles deep into the fabric structure. First, we refresh the material using a gentle vacuum with a soft brush — this prevents rubbing dirt in even deeper during wet washing.

Gentle washing

We wash blinds by hand or in a professional machine with a technical fabric programme — no spinning, at low temperature (max 30°C). We use products safe for treatments and coatings — regular detergent would destroy the material's structure.

Flat drying

This is the critical moment. We dry blinds horizontally, slightly tensioned, away from heat sources. This allows the material to dry evenly, maintaining original dimensions and stiffness. We never hang wet blinds vertically — gravity would stretch the fabric.

Shape-forming pressing

After drying, we press the blind through a thin protective cloth at a controlled temperature. This restores smoothness, eliminates minor creases, and reinforces the coating. We pay special attention to edges, which must be perfectly straight.

Frequently asked questions about blind cleaning
The questions our clients ask most - about shrinkage, dimensions, drying time and taking blinds off the window.
Will my blind shrink after washing?
At home, it might. Most blind fabrics shrink when wet washed, and once shrunk they won't return to size and stop covering the window. That's why we wash blinds at low temperature, without spinning, and dry them flat under light tension. We hold the original dimensions - and every blind is covered by our size guarantee, just in case.
How much does blind cleaning cost?
Blind cleaning starts from 18 PLN/m². The final price depends on the area, the fabric type (day-night, Roman, blackout) and how dirty it is. We measure the surface and give you a figure before washing, with no surprises. For several blinds - a whole office, for instance - we adjust the quote to the quantity.
Do I have to take the blind off the window?
Just the fabric needs to slide off the tube - usually a quick job with a couple of clips, and the mechanism stays on the window. You don't wash or press it yourself: we pick the blinds up from your home or office in Lublin and bring them back clean, pressed and ready to rehang. We offer pickup and delivery to your door.
How long does blind cleaning take?
Blinds are normally ready in 48 hours, and if you're in a hurry we have a 24h express option. Blinds need controlled, flat drying, so we don't rush that at the fabric's expense. We agree the deadline at drop-off, and with pickup and delivery across Lublin you don't have to travel twice. We're an English-speaking laundry, so just ask.
Do you clean Roman, day-night and blackout blinds?
Yes, all three. Roman, day-night and blackout blinds differ in fabric and coating, so each gets a different programme and product. We're especially careful with blackout and dimming coatings - ordinary detergent would ruin them. We remove dust, kitchen grease and smoke without harming the treatment or the pattern.
My kitchen blind is greasy and stained - can it be cleaned?
Usually yes. Kitchen blinds collect grease, smoke and residue that a vacuum only smears around. We start with dry vacuuming, then wash gently with a grease-dissolving product and treat stains spot by spot. The result depends on how long the dirt has been in the fabric, but the blind normally comes back clearly brighter and odour-free.
