A sleeping bag is more than gear
A good sleeping bag shares every night with you in the mountains, on the trail, under the tent. It stands between you and the cold when the temperature drops below zero. When your bag keeps you warm — you sleep. When it fails — you do not.
After a season, even the best sleeping bag loses power. Sweat, dust, moisture — every trip leaves its marks. Down clumps, synthetic fill loses loft, and you face a dilemma: wash it at home and hope for a miracle, or hand it to someone who truly knows how to care for it?
Why home washing ruins sleeping bags
Down clumping
Wet down is heavy down — without proper spinning and drying, it clumps into balls that lose their ability to insulate. Home washing machines lack sufficient capacity, so down sticks to the fabric and never returns to its original form.
Loss of insulation
A synthetic sleeping bag washed at too high a temperature or with the wrong detergent loses fill loft. The result? The bag still looks thick, but does not warm — because synthetic fibres have flattened and no longer trap heat.
Mildew and odours
A sleeping bag dried on the surface but wet inside is a time bomb. Mildew develops in thick fill within 24-48 hours, and there is no going back. Once mildewed, down loses its properties forever.
At Gorące Żelazko laundry, every sleeping bag — down or synthetic — goes through a 6-step washing process using professional machines with a minimum capacity of 12 kg. Drying with tennis balls breaks up down clumps, and hours of airing eliminate the risk of mildew. We restore full thermal insulation to sleeping bags.
6 steps to a clean and warm sleeping bag
Every sleeping bag goes through a full professional care process — from fill inspection to restoring full insulating power.
Fill inspection

We check the label, identify the fill type (down, synthetic, hybrid), and assess the level of soiling. We test the integrity of down chambers and the condition of zippers. Based on inspection, we select the washing programme and products dedicated to the specific sleeping bag type.

Stain removal

Stains from sweat, mud, food, or SPF cream are classics after trips. We treat each individually — spot by spot, with products matched to the type of soiling and shell material. We do not use harsh bleaches that weaken technical fabrics.

Professional washing

The sleeping bag goes into an industrial washing machine with a minimum capacity of 12 kg — that is what it takes for the fill to have room to move freely. We use specialist detergents for down or synthetics, a gentle programme with low spin speed. Temperature max 30°C.

Drying with balls

The critical moment. Drying in an industrial tumble dryer with added tennis balls, which for several hours break up down clumps and restore full loft. Low temperature, long time — it is the only way to fully dry thick fill without mildew.

Restoring loft

After drying, the sleeping bag is still flattened — it needs time for the down to regain its structure. We hang it for 24 hours in a dry, ventilated room and gently shake it every few hours. Down slowly returns to its original volume and insulating power.

Quality control

We check every down chamber — whether the down is dry, fluffy, and springy. We test zippers, assess fill uniformity, confirm no moisture. Only then do we pack the sleeping bag in a breathable transport bag with storage instructions.

We know fills
800 FP goose down is not the same as Primaloft synthetic. We know the differences between fills and adjust temperature, detergent, and drying time individually. Your sleeping bag returns fully functional.
Large machines
Professional washing machines with 12-18 kg capacity and industrial tumble dryers are the minimum to ensure a sleeping bag is clean and dry inside — not just on the surface. A home washing machine cannot provide this.

What our clients say
Google Maps reviews from people who entrusted us with their sleeping bags.
"After three weeks in the Himalayas, my down sleeping bag looked and smelled like a homeless camp. I brought it to Gorące Żelazko and it came back like new — down fluffy, warming like day one. Now I know where to take it after every season."
"Before camp I had 15 sleeping bags to clean. Mrs. Małgosia picked up everything, washed all of it professionally, and delivered on time. The bags came back clean, dry, and ready for another season. I recommend to every troop!"
Frequently asked questions about sleeping bag washing
Everything worth knowing before you hand over your bag - down or synthetic.
How do you wash a down sleeping bag without ruining the loft?
The secret is in the drying, not the washing. We wash down at low temperature (max 30°C) with a gentle detergent in a machine of at least 12 kg - so the fill has room to move. Then the key step: tumble-drying with tennis balls that break up clumps over several hours. This is almost impossible to replicate at home, and it is exactly what brings the loft back.
Can I just wash my sleeping bag in my own machine at home?
You can, but it is a gamble. Home machines are too small - the down cannot spread out and clumps into balls. The real problem is drying: a thick bag takes many hours, and moisture trapped inside leads to mildew you cannot remove. If your bag cost a few hundred zloty, one bad cycle can end it.
How much does sleeping bag washing cost in Lublin?
It starts from 55 PLN. The price depends on size, fill type (down or synthetic), and how dirty the bag is - a large down bag takes more work and longer drying than a light synthetic one. We give you an exact quote the moment we see the bag. You can check the full list on our pricing page.
How long does sleeping bag washing take?
Standard turnaround is 48 hours - down needs time to dry fully and regain its loft, and rushing that costs quality. If a trip is coming up, we offer a 24-hour express service. It is best to call ahead so we can schedule the job around your departure date.
Do you handle everything in English?
Yes. You can call or message us in English and we will guide you through the whole process - what to expect, the price, and pickup. No language barrier, no guesswork. Plenty of international students and expats in Lublin already trust us with their outdoor gear.
