Ski clothing allows no mistakes
A good ski jacket is an investment for years. Gore-Tex that shields you from wind and rain on the slope. Warmth that holds at minus ten. Breathability that keeps you dry from the inside.
After the season, traces remain. Sweat, mud, sunscreen, a stain from the ski lift. And the question: how to wash it so the membrane still works? Regular detergent clogs it. Fabric softener blocks the pores. And high temperature destroys it irreversibly.
Why home washing destroys ski clothing
Membrane destruction
Regular laundry detergent contains fillers and softeners that clog the microscopic pores of the Gore-Tex membrane. The result? The fabric stops breathing, sweat stays inside, you feel like you're in a plastic bag. High temperature additionally damages the membrane structure.
Insulation loss
Down or synthetic insulation can clump together with improper washing. Aggressive spinning destroys the structure of thermal insulation fibers. The jacket loses its heating properties — where there was warmth, cold spots appear.
Color fading
Modern technical fabrics use special dyes. Too aggressive detergents or high temperature cause intense colors to lose their depth. A red jacket becomes pink, black turns gray — especially in areas most exposed to friction.
At Gorące Żelazko laundry, we use specialized detergents safe for technical membranes. We wash at low temperature with controlled washing mechanics. After washing, we apply professional DWR (Durable Water Repellent) impregnation, which restores waterproofing. Your jacket works like new — even after many seasons.
6 steps to refreshed ski clothing
Every jacket and ski pants go through a full care process — from membrane inspection to impregnation reactivation.
Technical inspection

We check labels, identify the membrane type (Gore-Tex, Sympatex, other) and insulation type. We examine the condition of seams, zippers, and bonded layers. We assess the wear of the impregnation — we perform a water droplet test to check if the material still repels moisture.

Stain removal

We treat stains from sunscreen, lift oil, mud, or energy drinks spot by spot. We use agents compatible with membranes — no aggressive solvents that could damage the waterproof layer or clog the pores.

Membrane washing

We wash with specialized detergent designed for membranes (without fillers and softeners). Low temperature — maximum 30°C. Gentle program with minimal spinning. Thorough rinsing to ensure no detergent residue remains in the fabric structure.

Controlled drying

We dry ski jackets in a well-ventilated, warm room, away from direct heat sources. We never use high temperature — technical materials cannot tolerate it. Proper drying reactivates factory impregnation and restores full membrane functionality.

DWR impregnation

After drying, we apply professional DWR (Durable Water Repellent) impregnation. This is the key to full waterproofing — thanks to it, water beads and runs off the surface instead of soaking in. We use products from the Nikwax line or similar, dedicated to outdoor clothing.

Quality control

Final inspection: waterproofing test, zipper and velcro check, cleanliness verification. We make sure the membrane breathes, the impregnation works, and the jacket looks and smells fresh. We pack it in a breathable garment bag that protects our work during transport.

What our clients say
Google Maps reviews from skiers who entrusted us with their clothing.
"After three seasons, my Arc'teryx jacket stopped repelling water. I washed it like regular clothing and the membrane got clogged. At Gorące Żelazko, they not only refreshed it but restored the impregnation — it works like new again. Now I bring all my outdoor clothing here."
"We ski as a family — that's four jackets, four pairs of pants, and a pile of fleeces after the season. Gorące Żelazko took everything, washed it, and restored waterproofing. The kids didn't even notice they were the same jackets — they look and smell like new."
