Waterproofing that fades over time
You bought a good Gore-Tex jacket, paid a decent amount for it. Through the first season it works perfectly — rain beads off, snow doesn't soak through. But after a few washes, something strange starts happening. Water no longer beads off, it soaks into the fabric. The jacket feels heavy, wet, cold.
This is normal. Even the best membrane loses its waterproofing if the outer layer stops repelling water. The jacket is still technical, the membrane still works — but the dirty outer fabric holds water. The result? You feel wet, even though inside the shell you're technically dry.
Why home impregnation doesn't work
Loss of waterproofing
Home sprays are applied in spots and unevenly — poorly covered areas start soaking water after the first rain. Without heat activation, the impregnation doesn't bond with fibers and washes off at the first cleaning. The result? False sense of protection that ends in getting soaked.
Wet insulation = cold
When the outer layer soaks with water, the inner insulation gets wet too. A wet down jacket loses 80% of its thermal properties. Instead of protecting from cold, it becomes a cool, heavy shell that draws heat away from your body.
Accelerated deterioration
Non-impregnated fabric gets dirty faster, absorbs dust, sweat, and urban pollutants. Deposited dirt degrades fibers under UV exposure. The technical membrane starts losing elasticity, and the jacket ages 2-3 times faster than it should.
At Gorące Żelazko laundry, we use a professional spray method with even application across the entire surface, then activate it with heat at controlled temperature. This makes the impregnation bond permanently with fibers and withstand 10-15 washes. We know the differences between Gore-Tex, Sympatex, and other membranes — and we select products individually.
6 steps to lasting waterproofing
Every jacket, coat, or pair of shoes goes through a full professional impregnation process — from inspection to heat activation.
Inspection and identification

We check the membrane type, outer material, and garment condition. Gore-Tex, Sympatex, eVent — each membrane requires a different product. We also check if the garment needs washing before impregnation — dirty fabric won't accept the impregnation evenly.

Pre-wash (optional)

If the garment is dirty — we wash it with a special membrane detergent that doesn't leave a greasy layer. Regular detergents block membrane pores and prevent breathability. We use products that clean without damaging the technical structure.

Surface preparation

The garment must be dry and clean. We check for detergent residue that could block the impregnation application. We prepare the surface for even application — removing dust, hair, and minor dirt.

Professional application

We apply the impregnation using pressurized spray — evenly, at controlled distance, layer by layer. This ensures coverage of the entire surface, including seams, pockets, and hard-to-reach areas. Unlike home sprays — no spots or uncovered patches.

Heat activation

This is the critical moment. We place the garment in a tumble dryer at low temperature or in a specialized heat chamber. Heat activates the DWR (Durable Water Repellent) and makes the product bond with fibers at molecular level. Without this step, the impregnation washes off after the first cleaning.

Waterproofing test

We check the result by spraying water on the fabric. If water beads up and doesn't soak in — the impregnation works. If we see dark spots — we repeat application in those areas. We only release the garment when the entire surface repels water evenly.

Why professional impregnation works
We don't sell sprays. We do impregnation so it lasts a season — or three.
We know membranes
Gore-Tex requires different products than Sympatex, and softshell different than down. We know what to apply, how much, and how to activate — to restore properties without damage.
Professional equipment
Pressurized spray application + heat activation at controlled temperature. Home spray from a can is like painting with a brush — you can cover the surface, but it won't be durable or even.
Lasts 10-15 washes
Our impregnations withstand 10-15 wash cycles under proper conditions. Home spray? Two rainstorms and you need to reapply. That's the difference between chemistry that bonds with fabric and a layer that runs off at first contact with water.
Effectiveness guarantee
If after impregnation the garment still soaks water — we repeat the service at no extra cost. We check the result on every element before release. Either it works, or we fix it.

What our clients say
Google Maps reviews from people who restored waterproofing to their clothing.
"My Arc'teryx jacket started leaking after two years. I thought the membrane was worn out, but at Gorące Żelazko they said it was just a dirty outer layer. They washed it, impregnated it — the jacket works like new again. Water beads off just like the first time."
"The kids wear winter jackets to school for half the year — after one season they were soaked through every rain. The lady at the laundry professionally impregnated them and they lasted the entire next season without issues. Finally, impregnation that actually works."
