Did you know most laundries refuse to wash silk?
A silk blouse, cashmere sweater, wool coat. These aren't ordinary garments. They're an investment in quality and style. And that's exactly why they need special care.
At Gorące Żelazko we've specialised for years in washing fabrics others are afraid of. Silk, cashmere, merino, angora, viscose. Each requires an individual approach. And that's exactly what we do.
What can go wrong when washing delicate fabrics?
Shrinking several sizes
Wool and cashmere can shrink up to 30% at the wrong temperature. Your favourite sweater suddenly only fits stuffed animals.
Loss of colour and sheen
Silk loses its characteristic luster with aggressive detergents. Intense colours fade and turn dull.
Destruction of fibre structure
Too much spinning stretches delicate fibres. The fabric becomes rough, loses softness and elasticity.
That's why we test each piece first. We check colour resistance, reaction to water, fibre properties. Only then do we select washing parameters.

Frequently asked questions about silk and delicate fabric washing
The questions our clients ask most - about washing silk, cashmere shrinkage, quotes and keeping expensive fabrics safe.
How do I safely wash silk?
Silk hates high temperatures, spinning and ordinary detergents - it loses its sheen and distorts. At home, if you must, hand-wash only, in lukewarm water, with a delicate-fabric liquid, and dry flat, never in the sun. We go further: before washing we test colour fastness on a hidden spot, so the dye definitely won't bleed.
Do cashmere and wool shrink?
In the wrong conditions, badly. Wool and cashmere can shrink by tens of percent when they meet hot water and a hard spin - your favourite sweater suddenly fits a doll. That's why we wash them with the wet cleaning method at a controlled temperature, with minimal agitation, and dry them flat. The fibres keep their shape, softness and size.
Other laundries refused my garment - will you take it?
Usually yes - it's our speciality. Silk, cashmere, merino, angora and viscose are fabrics many laundries fear, because mistakes happen easily. We inspect each piece, test it, and only then set the washing parameters. If our assessment says the risk is too high, we'll tell you honestly rather than experiment on your garment. We're an English-speaking laundry, so just ask.
How much does silk washing cost and how is it quoted?
We quote each piece individually, because delicate fabrics are far too varied for a single rate - a silk scarf is handled very differently from a lined cashmere coat. Bring the item in or call and describe the material; we'll look at it, assess its condition and give you a price before washing, with no surprises at pickup.
What is wet cleaning and how is it different from dry cleaning?
Wet cleaning is water-based washing under controlled conditions - precise temperature, a gentle detergent and minimal mechanical movement, instead of aggressive solvents. It's safer for the fibres and for your skin, and effective on stains that solvents struggle with. It isn't classic solvent dry cleaning - it's a more modern, gentler method for delicate fabrics.
There's a stain on my silk - can it be removed?
Often yes, but silk is unforgiving, so don't try to remove the stain yourself - home remedies usually leave a ring. Tell us where it came from (wine, cosmetics, grease), because each needs a different approach. We treat it spot by spot, carefully, and repeat the process if needed. The sooner it reaches us, the better the chance it disappears without a trace.
